This is one happy 1/2 birthday boy!
Happy 1/2 Birthday sweet Sawyer! I can't believe it's actually been 18 months already! I couldn't seem to get myself together enough to actually post on his 1/2 birthday, but we sure had a great time celebrating together last week. Today we actually had his 18 month appointment with Dr. P and Sawyer weighed in at 24 pounds, 1 ounce and was 31 inches tall. Both were in the 25th percentile. He's still a tiny little guy! Tiny, but oh so fun!
What Sawyer Likes:
- Walking - Yay! I am finally able to say not only does he walk, but he likes walking!:) The last time I gave you a like/dislike update at 15 months, we were far from this point. He was still liking scooting! Honestly, he still scoots some now, but I would have to say he prefers to walk. Mostly because he can get down and go no matter where we are at. It's been a long time coming for this little guy, so he's pumped!
- Dancing - Oh how I love to watch him dance. He has been our little dancer for quite some time now, and it is pretty much the cutest thing ever. If we turn on music and ask him to dance he gets the biggest grin, throws those hands up over his head and starts movin' that body! My cheeks are hurting as I type this just from thinking about how cute it is!!!
- Talking - Just like his big brother, he's quite the talker. Daddy pretty much never gets a word in around here. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure his head is spinning all day long trying to keep up with all three of us "talkers"! Hayden talked a lot at 18 months, but honestly not near like Sawyer. Sawyer understands virtually everything we say to him(especially when it's Hayden talking!), and he is pretty good about listening and acting on what we say. He answers questions with a "yeeaaahhh" or "no", or a head shake in either direction, but we are still working on the "M'am and Sir" part. For now a simple answer will suffice! Not only does he understand us and respond, he is also pretty good about asking us for the things he wants on a daily basis. For example "Go get a ball?" when he wants to play ball or "Snack in there?",while pointing to the panty, when he wants a snack. I would say he knows at least 50 words, and honestly maybe even more. It's hard to keep track with him jabbing all the time!
Cutest grin I have ever seen in my life! This probably occurred
right after he had said something funny to me. He loves
to give you his little grin after he knows he's
done or said something funny!
-Playing with Hayden - Definitely his best buddy. And by best buddy I mean the one he can laugh with and cry with all in the same 5 minutes! They are the best of friends and have so much fun together, but can also get mad at each other in a split seconds time. Usually the mad part is because one of them is taking the other one's toy, instead of sharing, or one is being body slammed into the couch. Oh the joys of having two boys!:) At least they love each other!
- Splashing - I remember Hayden loving to splash, but not really ever to the extent of Sawyer. Sawyer hasn't just discovered the art of splashing, he has mastered it! There have been numerous occasions where there has been more water outside of the bathtub than inside it!:) Looks like it should be an extra fun summer for us!
- Bubbles - OMG, these boys of mine love them some bubbles. I didn't even know it was possible to love bubbles as much as they do. If you even so much as mention the word bubbles to Sawyer his eyes light up. It is the cutest thing. Daddy has a special bubble routine he does with them during bath time and boy does Sawyer love it. He can catch them, blow them, and of course POP them!! So much fun!
Sweetest boy!
- Dogs - "Dog, dog... get dat dog." No matter where we are or what type of dog he sees, we have to make a walk over to the dog for Sawyer to visit with it. If not, not only will we hear that same phrase over and over again, we will get a little tantrum to go along with it. He NEEDS to get.dat.dog! He talks to them, pets them, kisses them... he loves them. Especially Sydney! As everyone knows, Sawyer loves animals in general, but there is definitely a special place in his heart for a dog.
- Remotes/Phones - Not the toy ones. The real ones. Although he will still play with the toy versions, the real versions make him much happier. I think his favorite remote in the house is the ceiling fan remote. Probably because he doesn't get in too much trouble for using it! He and Hayden share their love for technology with their Daddy. Like Father, Like Son I suppose!
- The Camera - Boy can he put on a show for a camera. He really does like it. Maybe because it has been in his face since birth?!? I am definitely taking advantage of it at the moment because I know it doesn't last forever. He really loves to take off my lens cap and replace it over and over. That one simple task is as much fun as playing with his toys!
Handsome little 18 month old!:)
- Stairs - I sure wish I liked climbing stairs as much as he liked it. Talk about a calorie burner! He flies up and down them. Yes, you read that right... he goes up them almost as fast as he comes down them. I say this because he flies down them on his belly which is the fastest thing ever! He is just recently trying to master coming down forward facing. Although his attempts at this are much slower than his tummy slide, Mommy is still not encouraging this. It just makes me too nervous. I know it won't be long, and this is one of those I CAN wait for!:)
- Balls - Especially his textured one that lights up when he throws it. I know I have listed this a million times in the like category, but I couldn't leave it out this time because it is still one of his most favorite things! He especially loves playing with them in the trampoline with Hayden. Man do they have fun!
What Sawyer Dislikes:
- Things being taken from him - I know you are thinking why didn't she just put sharing? The reason is, he is actually pretty good about sharing as long as you remind him. He just gets REALLY upset if someone takes something he is in the middle of playing with. As you can imagine, that happens quite often around here. I can't blame Sawyer though, who does like having things taken from them? I just wish he could do something other than scream at the top of his lungs!
The sad face Sawyer likes to make for us when he's not getting
what he wants. It's a sweet looking sad face isn't it?!?
- The doctor - HUGE dislike. Like cry at the top of his lungs and never stop dislike. And the crying is for no good reason. Well, other than the fact it is a huge dislike for him! We really have no idea why he dislikes it so much. It's not the doctor's office, it is the actual doctor himself. He wants nothing to do with him. In the waiting room at the office he is fine. Waiting for the doctor in his examination room he is fine. The knock on the door from Dr. P occurs, along with his peek in the door, and the crying begins. It begins and it never ends. Not until the visit with Dr. P ends that is! As soon as he leaves the room Sawyer is fine again. Happy, reading books, playing... totally fine. Who knows. He just doesn't like being "examined" I suppose. I just hope his doctor feelings change in the near future. It makes for LONG, stressful appointments!
-Nursery at Church - Cries before we even make it to his classroom. Brings new meaning to the word dislike. Absolutely unbelievable. There is no way he even knows how fun it is to play in there because he never gets a chance. He literally cries himself to sleep. It's Pitiful. I know it's separation anxiety and he just wants Mommy or Daddy(Hayden went through the exact same thing at this age), but I just hope he can get through it quickly. Hopefully it won't be much longer before he realizes how much fun it can be....
He has no trouble finding fun with absolutely nothing outdoors!
I like to call this series of pictures "How to Eat a Stick!"
Oh, Sawyer, you are so crazy!:)
What Sawyer is not sure of:
- Clean-up time - Although he is always more than willing to help during clean-up time, he's not always sure he's ready for it to be clean-up time! It is really funny to watch his face when I say it's time to pick up the toys. He gives me that "who says?!?" look! As long as it's his idea we are good to go, but he likes to give a little "I don't think so" attitude if it's not on his time clock!
- Diaper changes - I say if your not sure about them, then maybe you should not wear them anymore!:) Wouldn't that be nice?!? I don't have this on his dislike list because sometimes he is okay with his change and he'll just lay there and read a book while you are getting him all cleaned up. It's almost as if he is actually enjoying it at times. BUT, there are also those times that I just don't think I'm ever going to finish the simple task of changing a diaper without going insane first. Sometimes he is just all over the place. He can't lay still for 1/2 a second. It is crazy. He just doesn't have time for the change! At least it's not every time!
Again, his likes outweigh his dislikes. I hope that is something that always rings true. He's just a happy, loving, joyful child. We are so blessed to have him as a part of our family. These first 18 months have been incredible, and we can't wait to experience more!
Happy 1/2 Birthday Saw! We sure love you little man!
